::Charming museum with a big heart, set in a tiny historical building in the centre of Tartu. It's got so much emotion and a lot to explore whether you are a kid or an adult - one of my favourite temporary exhibitions has a sand lot* with toys and a hidden secret cave for the tiniest visitors while there's a timeline of Estonians' favourite toys from the last 100 years for the slightly more grown-up guests. It's also charmingly low-tech somehow - with less screens and more physical exhibits. When planning a visit, take into account that the goal of the museum is to raise tomorrow's museum-loving audience, so it's more about keeping the kids entertained than displaying full-blown scientific research into local toy history. *local context needed: a sandlot is something a kid really starts to miss in Estonia, when in February the ground has been frozen for months with very little chance of building a sand castle. So, Tartu Toy Museum to the rescue!
